My group (Marissa and Ashley F.) and I created a "mock" lesson for second grade students on exploring the five senses. We created a lesson plan and a slideshow to teach the students. Prior to implementation, we made sure that our lesson was developmentally appropriate and that it fit standards for this grade level. Students will have the opportunity to express their understanding of the five senses by creating a digital story, responding to polls, and sharing their knowledge with their peers. Students will be using a variety of tools that educators are able to use to incorporate technology into the classroom, such as Kahoot!, Poll Everywhere, Google Classroom, Google Forms, and AWW app. The students will then present the story they created on AWW app with their peers. Through this process, I have learned many different ways to incorporate technology into the classroom that I plan to use in my future classroom. I have also gained more practice teaching in front of a class. There are many different tools out there that I encourage teachers to use in their own classrooms when studying specific content areas, such as the five senses!
Self Critique
One of the biggest challenges throughout this project was to find tools to integrate into our lesson that would allow others to learn about the five senses in an efficient way. It was also difficult to incorporate all of the tools we wanted to and provide all of the information we had in a specific time period. To solve this issue, my group and I decided to provide time limits in our lesson plan in order to plan out our presentation so we would not teach for too long or too short. My group also decided to practice our presentation prior to implementation, which I believe allowed it to run a lot more smoothly. Although timing was a concern for my group, it led me to realize that I will often come across troubles like this in my future, as a teacher. Creating this five senses lesson, allowed me to really think about different ways to engage students through communication and collaboration. Overall, I believe this project helped me to become a better teacher because I can incorporate some of the tools I used and strategies I learned in my future classroom.
