Digital Storytelling Night is a fun, unique way to have students, families, and school faculty come together to learn about technology and its benefits. They will all also be able to learn how to use different tools in order to create digital stories. I have created a poster to provide information to the audience about what this event is about, where it is occurring, and what time it is taking place. I plan on hanging this poster on the walls of the school and on bulletin boards, sending copies of the flyer home with my students, as well as using technology to spread the word about this event by emailing the poster to families and posting about it on my class website. Next, I made sure I carefully planned out a lesson that would meet certain objectives and standards that are relevant to my practicum students' needs. In my lesson plan, I also included a teaching timeline, which provides a step-by-step run through of the entire activity. For the digital storytelling product, the children and their families will see a demonstration on how to use a specific tool called VoiceThread. Each person that comes to this event will be asked to bring 3-5 artifacts that are meaningful to them, which will be used to practice creating their own digital story. This is a great way for individuals to learn more about one another, their cultures, and their personal lives. VoiceThread is a very useful tool because it has many different features, such as adding images, audio recordings, videos, etc. At this event, there will be chrome books and iPads provided for students and families to use. To use VoiceThread at the event, we will have each audience member download the app or go to the website for VoiceThread. At the end of the night, refreshments will be provided and individuals will have the opportunity to share their digital stories with each other.
